What's the standard door height of an internal door UK?

In England and Wales, the height of a standard door is 1981mm (6' 6").

Scotland typically uses a metric equivalent. The average door height in Scotland is slightly taller at 2040mm.

What's the standard door width of an internal door UK?

In England and Wales the average width of an internal door is 762mm (2' 6").

Scotland usually choose a metric equivalent that is a little smaller at 726mm.

How do I measure for a replacement internal door?

To measure for a replacement internal door you will need to take a measurement of the interior of the door frame, across the width, and then find the broadest measurement to decide the necessary door width.

To measure the height of the door, measure the interior of the vertical side of the frame and the longest length determines the necessary height.

How wide is a UK standard internal door frame?

The most typical door frame width in England & Wales is 762mm. In Scotland the most common door frame width is 726mm.

Door frames can be supplied pre-assembled or in component parts which can be cut to size, to fit all door sizes.

As the size of the frame you require will depend on the size of the opening, there is no standard UK door frame size. We would always suggest consulting with a professional joiner as door frame fitting is difficult and requires careful precision.

How do I measure for a double door?

To measure for a double door you will first need to measure the door opening size. Start by measuring the opening size and divide the width by two to give an approximate width for each door. If the frame isn't fitted, you will need to allow for this (usual frame width is 30mm either side), and tolerance for fitting (about 2-3mm each side).

Opening width - Frame width (e.g. 60mm) - Fitting adjustment (6mm) = Double door width / 2 = Single door width

When fitting double doors, you also need to take into account how you want the doors to come together in the middle.

Fitting double doors is not always plain sailing and we would always recommend using a knowledgeable joiner to help you get the perfect fit.

What is the average bedroom door sze?

The average bedroom door is similar to any internal door size. More often than not, you will find a bedroom door having a height of 1981mm or 6'6".
